STATE COURT DIVISION

The attorneys assigned to the State Court Division prosecute misdemeanor cases, which are cases punishable by less than one year imprisonment.  Although misdemeanors are typically considered less serious, the volume of cases can be quite high.  These attorneys practice before Chatham County's three State Court Judges and also handle preliminary hearings in the lower courts, which include the City of Savannah Recorder’s Court and occasionally in the Chatham County Magistrate Court.  The primary goal of the division is to ensure efficient and effective resolution of misdemeanor cases and ensure that opportunities for pre-trial diversion and treatment are extended where appropriate.
